A method of fundamental solutions for two-dimensional heat conduction

Note: The following files were submitted by the author for peer review, but cannot be converted to PDF. You must view these files (e.g. movies) online. (Received) We investigate an application of the method of fundamental solutions (MFS) to heat conduction in two-dimensional bodies, where the thermal diffusivity is piecewise constant. We extend the MFS proposed in [15] for one-dimensional heat ...

Anomalous heat conduction in one-dimensional momentum-conserving systems.

We show that for one-dimensional fluids the thermal conductivity generically diverges with system size L as L(1/3), as a result of momentum conservation. Our results are consistent with the largest-scale numerical studies of two-component hard-particle systems. We suggest explanations for the apparent disagreement with studies on Fermi-Pasta-Ulam chains.

Anomalous Heat Conduction in Quasi-One-Dimensional Gases

From three-dimensional linearized hydrodynamic equations, it is found that the heat conductivity is proportional to (Lx/(L 2 yL 2 z)) , where Lx, Ly and Lz are the lengths of the system along the x, y and z directions, and we consider the case in which Lx ≫ Ly, Lz. The necessary condition for such a size dependence is derived as φ ≡ Lx/(n L 5/4 y L 5/4 z ) ≫ 1, where φ is the critical condition...

Anomalous Heat Conduction in a Quasi One-Dimensional Gases

Fourier’s law is the relation between the heat flux J and the temperature gradient as J = −λ∇T where λ and T are the heat conductivity and the temperature, respectively. Although it is widely believed that the Fourier’s law is realized in many situations, recent numerical results suggest that the heat conductivity diverges in low-dimensional systems in the thermodynamic limit, while it is conve...

Correlations and scaling in one-dimensional heat conduction.

We examine numerically the full spatiotemporal correlation functions for all hydrodynamic quantities for the random collision model introduced recently. The autocorrelation function of the heat current, through the Kubo formula, gives a thermal conductivity exponent of 1/3 in agreement with the analytical prediction and previous numerical work. Remarkably, this result depends crucially on the c...
